Below are the equipment and materials needed for this project: 

  • Cricut Joy machine
  • Cricut Joy mat
  • cardstock or sparkle paper
  • Cricut Joy gel markers (or glitter gel markers)

After you have gathered these items, you need to follow the steps for making gift tags with Cricut.

How to Make Gift Tags on Cricut Joy Machine?

So, you might wonder why I chose Cricut Joy. Why not Cricut Maker or Explore? Well, there are two reasons behind choosing a Cricut Joy. First, in the comment section, my reader wanted to make gift tags for this particular cutting machine. At the same time, the other reason is that it is a small and affordable machine, which can be a good start for beginners. Hence, I chose this machine.

Now, let’s follow the step-by-step process to make gift tags:

Step 1: Create Gift Tags on Cricut

I did not create a new design from scratch. Rather, I preferred to choose it from a Design Space. Since I had a Cricut Access plan, I just added it from there. So, it’s up to you whether you want to make or add it from Cricut Access.

Here, I chose a snowman tag as I found it very cute. After inserting it into my Design Space, I duplicated it so that I could cut it out in two different ways.

You can edit the design and resize it as per your needs. Once done, move ahead. Further, if you encounter a pop-up asking you to select the way to load your materials, ensure you select the On Mat option.

Step 2: Place the Material on Mat

Now, I have placed a cardstock piece of material on my Cricut cutting mat.

And it is ready to be cut.

Step 3: Cut the Material

Now, you need to click the Go button on your device. As you hit the Go button, it will start cutting your mat. Once cutting is done, your machine will automatically stop. Press the Unload on your device, such as a computer or iPad, to unload the mat.

Following the same steps again, I cut my sparkle paper as I love the shiny touch in my project.

Step 4: Assemble the Tags

Finally, after everything is cut, I assemble them together using glue. However, you can also use double-sided tape if you want.
